A Beautiful Morning

A Beautiful Morning

Good Morning beautiful people – as one of my favourite homesteading gals would say – I hope you slept well and are ready for a wonderful day. So you’ve probably seen a lot of different morning routines out there but I thought I’d share mine. The first step for me is to wake up, usually, this is actually done by my boyfriend who calls me before he goes to work each day around 7 am or so. I am not an early riser, though I’ve tried in the past to become one. He sees me with hair around my face, wandering towards the kitchen like some zombie to put water on to boil. I used to be a big coffee person and maybe its old age but I get heartburn now when I have coffee so I make a cup of Aveda Comforting Tea or Matcha to start my day.

I feed the cat, sit in my chair and talk with PJ (my boyfriend) for at least a half-hour while I wake up. Then its time for me to get ready for my own day. It starts with a hot shower if need be where I like to make sure I exfoliate with exfoliating mitts or a sea salt scrub as my skin gets really dry – especially in the winter. Once a week I also like to make sure I use a hair mask from Trader Joe’s because I learned about a year ago that my unruly curls actually behave if properly cared for. Once out of the shower I dry off, put on lotion and then pull on a robe.

I don’t have a 38-step skin routine a la Madelaine Petsch. I like to start with a bit of gentle cleanser and toner before applying a moisturizer. Once my skin is primed I apply M.A.C liquid foundation and Benefit’s Boi-ing Concealer blending until my complexion looks a little smoother. This and mascara might be all I put on or I might do a more intense makeup look. I really have no middle ground in terms of makeup it’s either full-face or nature.

My hair routine is by far the most intense part of my routine because I do have curls and they take a lot to wrangle. After a trip to New York last year and a visit to a fairly expensive hairstylist (on a new client discount because it honestly wasn’t affordable to see him otherwise) I learned that I hadn’t ever cared for my curls properly. That cut changed my life and helped me embrace my natural curl which had forever been a struggle before. The Christo NYC lotion, control gel and pomade have saved my curls and made managing what can be a rats nest much more manageable.

My last step before I’m ready to go is a healthy breakfast. I’m… not a breakfast person but the more I exercise and use MyFitnessPal to track my food intake I realize its a really important way to get me the fuel I need to keep going about my day. Depending on the day I like to mix it up, frozen fruit is pretty much a staple right now, I also like avocado toast with a couple of eggs or oatmeal with wheat bran to add fibre. It’s usually pretty light and then I pack lunch on the side, a salad with protein for my post-workout meal.

That’s a typical morning here in beautiful Montreal before I’m on the road for the day, writing blogs, sending out resumes (this is fun but it doesn’t pay the bills yet) and working out with my trainer. I hope your morning routine benefits a bit from knowing about mine, have a wonderful day!
