Restaurant Review: September Surf Café
I am not a doctor – any views expressed here I have researched to the best of my ability but may not reflect your doctors advice or be the right thing for you
When I got back from my outing with a friend to the September Surf Cafe in Montreal, I immediately noted how good the bone broth was, to which my mother shot back that I was a hipster (agree to disagree on that point) but it was true. Unfortunately, while it was too late in the day to get a full meal I did get a matcha latte and a bone broth.
This place is very cool, think California vibes in the middle of a snowstorm cool. The interior is all white teak wood, the cups are a happy summer blue and it’s full of people with beachy blonde waves even in the bleak midwinter. They have a fantastic looking menu including a salmon bowl, tartare and kimchi pancakes though I have yet to find the opportunity to try them.
The matcha latte which does come with non-dairy options was very good. The perfect balance of creamy and full of that earthy green tea flavour that makes matcha a favourite of mine. A pretty latte-art leaf tops this beautiful drink.
September Surf has definitely made my list of places to go hang out as a workspace. The vibe is great and so is the broth. I don’t care if it makes me a hipster, bone broth is great. The bone broth was rich and salty without being overpowering, the perfect pick me up on a cold winter day.
Bone Broth is a type of stock made from the bones of animals, usually chicken or beef using connective tissues that are highly nutrient-dense. Animal bones contain a whole host of minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus which contribute to bone health. Bone broth also contains collagen, which can be a vital support to the body. It also has links to gut health. Bone broth is a special treat for me, it is not something I consume daily, and I really love the flavour.
Even if you are not working, September Surf is just a great place to hang out. Go with a friend and enjoy chatting over a cup of tea.
